Arrival in Hamburg

If you arrive at the airport in Hamburg, you will need to take a train to Bremen. At the airport, follow the green ‘S’ sign to the S-Bahn station Hamburg Flughafen. From here, you will need to take a train to the main station (Hamburg Hauptbahnhof).

At the airport S-Bahn station find a red Deutsche Bahn ticket vending machine. The best option is to buy the so-called Niedersachsen-Ticket, which allows you to travel all day on regional trains in the Land Lower Saxony, as well as on city transport in both Hamburg and Bremen. This means that you wouldn’t need any other ticket all day.

You should be able to find this ticket under “DB offers” - “Regional/local offers” - “Niedersachsen”, or under “Special and leisure tickets” / “Regional tickets sorted by Federal Land” - “Niedersachsen” (the machines’ interfaces differ). If you cannot find the ticket, simply buy a single ticket to the Hamburg Main Station. In this case, however, you will need to buy another ticket for the train to Bremen.

You can also book your train ticket in advance at https://www.bahn.com/en/view/index.shtml.
The Niedersachsen-Ticket costs € 24 for one person. Please note that you can buy a group ticket for up to 5 passengers for € 5 / each additional person.

At the Hamburg Main Station, you will need to take the Metronom train to Bremen. It leaves every hour at X.15 (e.g. 9:15, 10:15, 11:15…) and it takes 1 hour 9 minutes. Attention: on weekdays, the Niedersachsen ticket is valid from 9 am! The ticket needs to be signed with your name and surname in block letters before entering the train.
